CAN FAITH AND FEAR COEXIST?
I’ve heard people say that faith and fear can’t coexist, which is not realistic.
It may be an ideal thought. It may even happen like that sometimes. And yes, it may sound good, but honestly, it’s just a good cliche.
Contrarily, faith, and fear can exist in the same space.
And you’ve probably experienced this. I know I have. I’ve made faith-filled confessions and, in the same breath, still been nervous. I’ve made decisions in obedience and took risks that left me worried.
SURRENDERING ANXIETY TO GOD
When this happened, I didn’t tell myself to toughen up because ‘faith and fear can’t coexist.’ Instead, I turned to God for help with my humanity. I put my dependence on the One who says give your cares to me because I care for you. I surrendered my anxiety, worry, and doubt to him.
To this day, I still do this as often as I need to because truthfully, the feelings don’t always magically disappear at once!
One more thing! I challenge you to think about this. Some ‘courage-quotes’ encourage more self-reliance on our power, strength, and ability but, at the same time, less on God’s.
While you should practice self-love and affirm yourself often, never allow that to take the place of your dependence on God. Let your confidence always rest in God’s faithfulness first.
