You can’t kill my vibe: How to respond when people throw your past in your face

Have you ever had someone throw your past in your face as a way to hold you down? Take it in stride and handle it like this:

Instead of getting angry, focus on how much you’ve grown.

You are no longer the person you were and you are not presently the person they are talking about.

Now stop, breathe and celebrate yourself.

To get to your destiny, you have to go through a process and sometimes that process is hard. Sometimes that process includes conflict; facing people that ridicule you and tie you to your past instead of embracing who you presently are.

These things and these people, may make you angry and want to retaliate, but don’t. Instead, do what Joseph did when he was confronted with his past.

Joseph’s Story

Joseph’s life with his family started out great until his jealous brothers decided to sell him as a slave. This act initiated a series of misfortunes for Joseph, including accusations of rape, imprisonment, and being overlooked. Eventually, Joseph’s consistent response to pressure, his ability to interpret dreams, and leadership acumen lead him to the second highest position in Egypt.

How? Because no matter where Joseph went or what Joseph faced he remained the same. The nuances of life couldn’t kill his vibe and shady people couldn’t take him out his element.

Even when confronted with his past (facing his brothers who started everything terrible in his life), he didn’t let it kill his vibe and neither should you.

So Joseph said to his brothers again, “Come here to me. I beg you, come here.” When the brothers went to him, he said to them, “I am your brother Joseph. I am the one you sold as a slave to Egypt. Now don’t be worried. Don’t be angry with yourselves for what you did. It was God’s plan for me to come here. I am here to save people’s lives.

Genesis 45:4-5 ERV

Here’s the takeaway, in life you can’t choose how people will treat you, but you can choose how you’ll respond to them.
