January 1st is a big day! It’s the first day of a new year and in 2020, a new decade! But more personally, it’s the first day of 365 new days for you to live out your fullest potential by doing what God says.
WHEN DOING WHAT GOD SAYS GETS HARD
As children, it’s easy to listen to our parents because we don’t know anything. We rely on them to learn how to eat, talk, walk, play, and share. As we advance, we learn to think, make decisions alone, and prepare to lead our lives without our parents.
Over time, as our parents give us more room to grow, and our abilities increase, our willingness to listen without hesitation withers. What we know makes it harder to listen to their advice. Sometimes, our misguided confidence misreads the no’s, the waiting, and the advice as a denial of our potential, when these things are often evidence of what we’re trying to unlock.

Our spiritual connection to God is no different. I believe this is one of the reasons Jesus taught people to be as little children or have a child-like faith.
So before I tell you how to unlock your potential, let’s reflect. Take a moment to ask yourself:
1) Am I genuinely allowing God to navigate this life I’ve given Him?
2) Have I ever really put God’s desire over mine in everything?
3) Is it time for me to amp up my faith and willingness?
Now wherever you find yourself, know this. Your fullest potential, the total peace, and well-being that God wants for you are entirely locked in your ability to do what He says.
THIS WILL START OFF CLICHE•ISH BUT GO WITH IT
Since I know how hard listening to God can be, let me tell you three actionable steps I use.
First, shift your prayer goals from pray until something happens to pray until you listen to God. Next, dare to courageously follow through by doing what God says. Last, don’t wait for life to default you into a decision. Yes, bearing the responsibility of life-changing choices is tough but your ability to make decisions is an essential part of unlocking your potential.
Now, you try it! Pray until you listen to God. Courageously take action on what God says. Make a decision and let God deal with the rest!
