DREAM ON DREAMER
My elementary age daughter is learning about coding at school and has been talking to me about it weekly. As a student, my academic interests differed from hers considerably. My affections were predominately given over to art, science, and literature, while she enjoys all forms of technology.
In some ways, my daughter is like me, and in others, it’s beyond clear that she is not. As true as this may be, I still refuse to kill her spirit or her stall her imagination. I look beyond what I see, what I’ve known, and what I have experienced to speak forward, prophesying into her life, boldly declaring that her contributions to technology will be great.
I say this to encourage you not to kill the dreams of others. This practicality applies to any relationship:
- Child to Parent
- Mentee to Mentor
- Student to Teacher
- Parishioner to Pastor
At times we discourage others and unwittingly kill their dreams by limiting them to what we’ve known, what we’re accustomed to, and our comforts.
Other times, we attempt to live vicariously through them. Like we’re trying to live out our self-professed “glory days” again. Have you considered that each breath affords you an opportunity to experience a “glory day?”
All of this is wrong because it’s all about you and not them, which leads me back to my original point…
Do not kill another’s dreams by imposing your own.
DREAM ON DREAMER
In the meantime, I need to hurry to buy my daughter this Ozobot she’s raving over that teaches coding, and for you, well dream on dreamer. And as you dream, apply wisdom.
Wisdom guards against the folly of excitement. Wisdom will defend your life, including your livelihood and your ability to thrive.
Dream, but dream in wisdom.
Pursue, but pursue in wisdom.
Pray for wisdom without ceasing.
Your pursuit and acquisition of wisdom shouldn’t be a once in a lifetime thing. An encounter with wisdom shouldn’t be like an affair either. Instead, bind her to you. Break bread with wisdom and come into covenant with her.
New paths, new levels, and new assignments each require new wisdom.
Happy dreaming! More than that, happy living out your God-given dreams!
SCRIPTURE REFERENCE
Forsake not [Wisdom], and she will keep, defend, and protect you; love her, and she will guard you.
The beginning of Wisdom is: get Wisdom (skillful and godly Wisdom)! [For skillful and godly Wisdom is the principal thing.] And with all you have gotten, get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation).
Prize Wisdom highly and exalt her, and she will exalt and promote you; she will bring you to honor when you embrace her.
She shall give to your head a wreath of gracefulness; a crown of beauty and glory will she deliver to you.
