🎥 Making videos for social media is hard—but help is here!
Being honest, making content for social media is hard. And when people act like it’s not hard — it’s crystal clear they don’t consider everyone’s experience.
That’s why I wrote five quick and simple video ideas to film with a phone.
❌ No complicated steps.
❌ No fancy equipment required.
Your ONLY job?
Pick a video idea, grab your phone, and follow my easy-to-use guide.
I’ve literally done all the hard work for you.
Just point, shoot, and edit.
Below are five video ideas—pick one and we’ll start.
① Refreshing Drink Video
② Stress-Busting Exercise Routine
③ Book Lover’s Delight
④ Artist At Work
⑤ DIY Home or Garden Project
Work with a friend. Some of these video ideas work best if a friend helps. Friends can give instant feedback, find your best angles, and of course, film with a phone.
Fly solo. But if you’re flying solo, use a tripod or overhead cell phone mount to clamp your phone to a stable surface (like a desk). I used a Universal Cell Phone Holder Mount from Amazon to make this video — BUY NOW using my affiliate link.
@lolacabaya so I bought an inexpensive pen pouch and the zipper broke…did I return it? ❌ did I complain? ❌ or did I fix it? 🙌🏽 #t#thesmokingprophetorganizingwithme #organizingwithadhd #setintentionsdaily ♬ original sound – Lola Cabaya
Refreshing Drink Video
This idea requires your favorite drink, a clean counter, and well-moisturized hands. Trust me…🚫 Dry hands on close-up is a big no-no.
Start with a shot of the finished drink in a glass.
Then, show the steps: cutting the fruits, blending the ingredients, and freezing the mixture in a cool ice tray. Don’t have time to make a drink? Personalize the video by grabbing your favorite cup, pouring a drink, dropping in a few ice cubes, and topping it off with a reusable straw.
End with the same shot of the finished drink.
This video is visually satisfying, a breeze to make, and a breeze to edit.
Stress-Busting Exercise Routine
All you need is a flattering outfit and a confidence-boosting exercise.
Begin with a shot of yourself in a stretching pose.
Switch to a timelapse of your entire routine, and add music to match the tone of your routine.
End the video with the same stretching pose.
The simple loop makes editing a breeze while keeping viewers watching from start to finish.
Book Lover’s Delight
Grab a book, make sure your nails are neat, and moisturize those hands.
Start by showing the book’s page ends or spine. For added intrigue, don’t show reveal the book name too soon.
Then, capture yourself flipping through the pages, clearly enjoying the read. Get creative with your shots—try different angles or show a close-up of your hands on the pages.
End with the same shot of the book’s title or spine.
This quick and easy video is perfect for sharing your favorite reads, and editing it will take no time.
Artist At Work
You’ll need your artwork, the elements used to create it, and your winning smile.
Open with a shot of the finished artwork (Maybe you can hold the artwork and smile).
Next, show a bit of the creative process—mixing colors, sketches, or brush strokes.
Fade out with the same shot of the finished piece.
Editing this video is as simple as 1-2-3, making it an easy way to showcase art and creative processes.
Home or Garden Project
For this idea, capture your home or garden project from start to finish. That means you’ll need before-and-after moments and some behind-the-scenes shots too.
Start with the final reveal of your project, whether it’s a cozy home nook or a blooming garden patch.
Then, take viewers through the preparation or shopping phase, and some project progress.
End with the same final shot.
This before-and-after style is always a hit on social media and easy to edit!
Best Practices to Look + Feel Your Best While Recording
🌞 Embrace Natural Light: Daytime is your best friend! Record during the day to take advantage of soft, flattering natural sunlight. It’s the easiest way to make your videos shine.
💡 Light Up Your Face: Always have the light source in front of you, not behind. This way, your face is bright and clear, so that you can shine bright.
📹 Shoot in 4K: If your phone supports it, opt for 4K resolution. It adds a crisp, professional touch to your videos, making every detail pop!
🔄 Simple Framing Tip: This small change can make your content look way more interesting and professional…Try keeping your subject (that’s you!) a little off to one side instead of right in the middle of the screen. Google ‘Rule of Thirds’ for examples in videos and photos.
