While you’re thinking about that, let me share a story with you. It’s about a gift that influenced me so much I ended up making a purchase.

I was scrolling on social media one day for a super brief moment when something caught my attention. It was a quote. I read the quote first. Then the social caption underneath it.

The caption was very captivating and it closed with a CTA. 

A CTA is a call to action. CTAs are used to drive engagement or profits.

Calling Out Customers in the CTA

This particular CTA mattered to me because it was for a free blueprint (aka insider knowledge of how to do something). 

Don’t you love things that make life simpler? 

I was thinking yippy – this is a win. It was free, relevant to me, and easy to add to my schedule. So I’m like cool. I’ll stop what I’m doing and sign up. 

Well, here’s what happened next. When I went to sign up, there was another offer, and boom!

I found out the gift was for people who pre-ordered a new book. 

I thought the author’s first book was PIVOTING — not riveting. Haha. Pivoting because it helped shift my life.

So I’m like, why not order this NEW book and get a free course? And that’s what I did.

The gift turned into a sale.

I shared all of that to say reciprocity was at work in this case. No doubt about it. It was easier for this business owner to sell to me because they gave me a gift.
