“Friends” by Vichaya Kiatying-Angsulee via freedigitalphotos.net

A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.

Proverbs 17:17 NKJV

In 2013 an emerging apostle, then prophet, randomly came to me and spoke of many things only God knew. Strangely, I was told God said He was going to send me friends and “real” friends at that. I thought what a strange thing for God to say, considering I had a pretty strong and small circle of confidants.

God is progressive, when I received that prophetic word I should have prayed for revelation and possibly would have been spared some headaches. But I handled it with a very laissez faire approach, because I didn’t see beyond what was in front of me.

My perception was distorted, I had developed an “I CAN’T SEE THE FOREST FOR THE TREES” mentality, focusing on what was immediately ahead and neglecting to see the larger scope of things.

Almost two years later I gained insight into why those words were spoken. God allowed me to truly see those around me.

Sometimes the excitement of a relationship and longings filled in friendships will blind us to the things the bond lacks.

I began to look at their motivation levels and the satisfaction some of them possessed with the subpar. As time progressed it became clear it wasn’t an iron sharpening iron relationship (Proverbs 27:17). Foolishly, I was throwing my pearls to pigs, pouring the investment of myself into a ponzi scheme yielding no return. I was giving more in relationship that was not yet and may have never been able to be reciprocated.

WHEN THE RELATIONSHIP GOES AS FAR AS IT CAN GO

The absolution of a relationship means the beginning or maturing of another. Not only is God progressive, but He is the God of covenants-or relationships. From the beginning, He created us to be with Him. When we are alone it’s only for seasons, during which we are personally cultivated by Him. Adam was alone for a time, then Eve was formed on the premise of his maturity, connection and placement with God. Once Adam was in the position God wanted him in, God then said “it is not good for man to be alone” and Eve was formed (Genesis 2:18).

So if you’ve lost a few this season, CHIN UP it’s time to sit at God’s table and dine with Him. You all went as far as you could together and at this time you obtained what you needed, in that relationship. God will send you what you need at the right time –  pray for His guidance to distinguish who to connect yourself to! In the meantime, sit at His feet and learn of Him!

  1. Shift Your Thinking. Ask God to raise your level of thinking, this starts with your vision. If you want to think beyond your situation, you must see beyond your situation, so take your place with CHRIST in heavenly places! (Eph 2:6)
  2. Don’t Focus On Your Idea of Partiality. Martha became upset with Mary’s lack of service, she petitioned JESUS to reprimand Mary. Yet CHRIST told Martha to relax and highlighted Mary’s choice to sit at His feet as the wiser choice. (Luke 10:38-42)
  3. Move Closer to God. Continue to do what you were doing prior to the relationship you lost and pursue God more closely. Remember He created you to be close to you! (James 4:8b)

 PRAYER

Father, I thank You for being the lover of my soul, for taking permanent residence in the seat of my affections. Only You can fill every empty place. Only You can quench this thirst to be loved and accepted. As we draw closer to You, let us tangibly feel Your love and rest assured in Your acceptance. Let us not be as Martha getting distracted by what we feel and thoughts of neglect, but let us be as Mary…sitting and taking rest at Your feet. Elevate our thinking, as we are seated with Christ in heavenly, let us come up to obtain an aerial view and not get fixated on what is before us.

In JESUS Name, Amen!

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE

But God is rich in mercy, and he loved us very much. We were spiritually dead because of all we had done against him. But he gave us new life together with Christ. You have been saved by God’s grace. Yes, it is because we are a part of Christ Jesus that God raised us from death and seated us together with him in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 2:4-6 Easy-to-Read Version

As they continued their travel, Jesus entered a village. A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and made him feel quite at home. She had a sister, Mary, who sat before the Master, hanging on every word he said. But Martha was pulled away by all she had to do in the kitchen. Later, she stepped in, interrupting them. “Master, don’t you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand.” The Master said, “Martha, dear Martha, you’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing. One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—it’s the main course, and won’t be taken from her.”

Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
