img_6205When approaching the book of Revelation, there are four primary interpretive views used:

  1. Historicist ViewThe historicist view holds the events in the book of Revelation occurred between the inception of the church to the second coming of Christ or the time of the interpreter.
  2. Idealist View – The idealist view holds that the events in Revelation are symbolic in nature, painting a panoramic picture of the unending battle between good and evil, God and Satan.
  3. Preterist View – The preterist view concludes that the events in Revelation have already occurred and there is no future eschatological implication. Within this perspective are partial and full preterist.
  4. Futurist View – The futurist view, which most seem to hold, believes that most of the events in Revelation will occur in the end times, prior to the second coming of Christ.

There also exists a fifth perspective, which is the moderate futurist view.

Personally, I haven’t done much study on the End Times, the book of Revelation, or Eschatology, but I have spoken from a place of waiting on “The Day of our Lord” and have even written from this mindset. This teaching has liberated me from waiting on the world to end and instead, incited me to study eschatology, humbly submitting myself to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

With open hearts, I encourage you to watch this teaching and seek the Lord. Realize that it’s okay to be in a constant place of seeking, it’s okay to change your mind, it’s okay to remain open to learning, and it’s especially okay to be corrected.

Consider Apostle Peter, He was corrected by Jesus (Matthew 16:23), by God (Acts 10:15;28), and by Apostle Paul (Galatians 2:11-14). Accepting correction doesn’t make you foolish, it’s not accepting it that does.

If you love learning, you love the discipline that goes with it— how shortsighted to refuse correction!

Proverbs 12:1 The Message Bible

I do not believe this subject determines your salvation, but as Michelle J. Miller says our perspective on these matters create a foundation for current and future biblical understanding. With this being understood, I believe dialogue over the “End Times” is necessary and this teaching should bring us all to seek the truth all the more diligently.
