LOOKING AH-MAZING ON A $200 BUDGET

Dante and I are all about living life on less than what we make. We’re committed to doing this in our daily lives and on special occasions too. Even though everyday minimalism is pretty natural to us, it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that life tested this commitment.

Here’s what happened.

Weeks ago, Dante and I received an invitation to his friend’s wedding! Exciting right?! It is so inspiring seeing people choose to love!

In a time where I should have felt the excitement, I felt anxiety. Why? It’s because I couldn’t help but think about how we would go on a budget.

Despite my worry, I asked my husband what we could spend (because we make all the money decisions together). Then, I began looking at fall wedding trends, wedding guest looks, and semi-formal dresses.

Initially, we planned to spend about $200 on our wedding threads, but only spent $88.07!

DANTE’S FALL WEDDING LOOK

I started our shopping quest at ASOS.com. I shop ASOS because:

  • They have clothes, again, for everyone (petite, fuller chest, tall, curvy)
  • Their prices are ahmazing
  • Orders ship fast
  • Their returns are simple – all orders ship with pre-paid return labels

Dante is 6 + tall, so this limits where we can shop. Thankfully, ASOS has clothes for everyone – including my super tall and slim husband (LOVE HIM)!

When I saw a tall and slim suit ON SALE at ASOS, we jumped on it. We bought it, it shipped, and we got it in around five days. I’m glad it came fast because we needed a bigger jacket. We ordered another size and sent the first one back. The new jacket came as quickly as the first order and fit perfectly. To date, ASOS doesn’t have an exchange policy.

To cut our cost, even more, we decided to pair his new suit with a subdued floral print button-down shirt by H&M and Steve Madden sneakers he already owned.

For Dante, we spent $52.00 for his suit jacket and $25.50 for the matching pants. No alterations were necessary!

LOLA’S FALL WEDDING LOOK

I wore a black floor-length dress with nude heels and tassel earrings. I planned to buy a navy blue print dress. However, the dress wasn’t in stock. You may be thinking, why didn’t you buy anything else? Well, that’s because I like what I like and I didn’t like anything else.

Still, things worked in our favor because I spent $0 on my outfit. OH! If you’re wondering, I bought my dress six + years ago from ASOS!

My dress is a size 6 (US). Dante’s suit jacket is a 44 Long (US), his pants are a W 34/L 38. Dante’s actual length is a size 36, but that size wasn’t available on sale!

WE STAYED ON BUDGET + PASSED THE TEST

So, there you have it! That’s how Dante and I stayed on budget, without breaking a sweat.

If we can do it, you can too! For more on how we live a life we love on less than what we make, follow our new Instagram account @DanteandLola (posts coming soon)!

And remember, a budget doesn’t mean you’re broke if you work it right, a budget keeps you from being broke!
