There is a difference between conviction and condemnation. Conviction may not always feel good, but it produces a great return and its results are high-yielding. Think of conviction as the safeguard that turns you away from what’s harmful and towards what’s good. Conviction comes from the Holy Spirit (John 16:7-8).

Condemnation is quite the opposite. Condemnation is the act of condemning. Damned is a synonym for condemned, this means to be cursed. Condemnation places you under a curse. Christ advised that we aren’t to condemn others, I believe largely for this reason. I also believe condemnation is one of the reasons Jesus spoke these words:

But I say to you that everyone who continues to be angry with his brother or harbors malice against him shall be guilty before the court; and whoever speaks [contemptuously and insultingly] to his brother, [a]Raca (You empty-headed idiot)!’ shall be guilty before the supreme court (Sanhedrin); and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of the [b]fiery hell.

Matthew 5:22 Amplified Bible.

Spirited slurs are contrived in hate, so giving into them is a red flag that you are moving towards danger, but here’s another twist. Our words have power and if I have the key to life (Jesus Christ), I should speak His truth over you and not a curse, even if you are acting kind of foolish. *smile, it releases tension* Speaking only what you see, can condemn a person to their current state or situation, locking them inside the prison of where they are and not releasing them to what they can be. Speaking forward releases God’s intent over their life.

Condemnation is from satan. If you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, God will use conviction to bring you to repentance and not a curse.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Romans 8:1 KJV

For those of you that feel like you don’t deserve God or you messed too bad…
  1. First, confess your failure to Him.
  2. Second, ask Him for forgiveness and choose to let Him reshape your life!
  3. Lastly, accept it. You are forgiven.
