People don’t know you

The first reason you may get overlooked is this: people don’t know you.

It may have to do with your personality, or it could be that you’re not putting yourself out there enough. Maybe you’re the quiet type, or you don’t like talking about what you do.

Whatever the case, it’s time for you to realize that you have something valuable to bring to the world. If you do not open your mouth and say who you are, who’s going to know it?

When you go on a job interview, you speak up for yourself. So do the same thing daily – speak up for yourself. Put yourself out there. Sell yourself without guilt or shame. Your skills are valuable, and people need what you carry.

People don’t see your value

The second reason you get overlooked is: people don’t recognize your value.

You’re putting yourself out there and networking, but people are still unsure about what you do and the value you bring.

No worries. I’ve got an easy fix.

Discover your strengths and start showcasing them. When you showcase your skills, it helps the right people see what you can do and makes it hard for you to get ignored.

People are intimidated by you

The third reason you get overlooked is the worst: people are intimidated by you.

So let’s say you’re showing up and showcasing your value. You are making it very clear to people and consistently demonstrating your skills — but nothing is happening. Then you get wind that someone is intentionally derailing your success path. 🤯

Here’s how to deal with it. Always position yourself as a friendly agreeable person who puts the interest of the business first. Doing this will help you make friends and allies in unlikely places. Those unlikely allies are often the ones that can help you the most.
