TRAUMA SPEAKS EVEN WHEN WE DON’T WANT IT TO
My generation seems to be marked by trauma.
Both private and public. Personal and communal.
…And I’m talking a community that spans beyond color, education, or socioeconomic status.
A community — a nation — forever impacted.
We saw what happened to the Twin Towers. For some, COVID-19 was NOT the first lockdown. If you were in NY, PA, or DMV area, you might have been locked down.
We saw what happened to banks — the institutions we ONLY knew to trust. For some, they lost everything or saw their loved ones lose lifetime investments.

Now, as full-grown adults, we face the pandemic.
Racism that has no shame.
Protests and riots.
Injustices over our inalienable rights.
Our trauma taught us not to trust.
It taught us how to hustle – to get things done.
It taught us how to take care of us…
In most cases, it taught us how to be something we are not.
So today, my prayer is this:
May we live influenced by love and not trauma.
