God is good and His mercy endures forever! Recently I thought of a message I’d ministered on the blessing of the house of Obed-Edom. Many may not readily identify his story in the Bible because there isn’t much said about him. However, his obscurity doesn’t take away from the strength of his story or its current prophetic application for you!

Obed-Edom’s history is found in the Old Testament. He was a Levite who served as a gatekeeper, as a doorkeeper and also as a worship leader. Obed-Edom was charged with the task of guarding the Ark of God, or the Ark of the Covenant, for king David.

Caring for the Ark of God was a precious task. The Ark was first mentioned in Exodus 25:10-22, as a physical representation of God’s throne here on earth. The Ark of the Covenant symbolizes the very presence of God.

You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony that I will give you. And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony, about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel.

Exodus 25:21-22 NKJV

The Ark remained in Obed-Edom’s house for three months and for three months the Lord blessed Obed-Edom, his family, and all that pertained to him (2 Samuel 6:11, 1 Chronicles 13:14). He experienced a season of EXPONENTIAL GROWTH, everything he touched multiplied.

God’s reward flowed onto his family and allowed him access to generational blessings. The Lord increased his seed greatly. As I began to look over some of the commentator’s views and study who this Obed-Edom was, I discovered it was said his daughters had pregnancies that resulted in multiple births!

As mentioned earlier, the Ark of God remained in Obed-Edom’s home for three months before king David made plans to bring the ark to Jerusalem. David had left the Ark with Obed-Edom after a failed attempt to return it home (2 Samuel 6:1-11, 1 Chronicles 13). The Ark belonged in Israel but had been in Kiriath Jearim for 20 hard years due to the people’s negligence (1 Samuel 4, 1 Samuel 7:2).

When it was reported to King David, “The Lord has blessed Obed-Edom and everything that belongs to him, for the sake of the ark of God,” David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing.

2 Samuel 6:12 Modern English Version

The blessings that had been upon Obed-Edom’s house for the sake of the Ark, were known throughout Israel! What God did for him could not and would not go unnoticed! After hearing the good report of the messengers, David was encouraged to try again and finally, with great celebration, the Ark of God was brought to the City of David!

The man of God could have lived on the overflow of those blessings for the rest of his life, but decided to continue caring for the Ark of the Covenant in the City of David. There he remained in the service of the Lord and is mentioned along with Asaph the chief musician, as one of the worship leaders,  (1 Chronicles 16:5).

Obed-Edom continued faithfulness towards God, put him in line for multiple blessings and promotion. His loyalty, love, and sincere devotion towards God changed his entire life, family, and all he owned for generations.

To God’s faithful, I encourage you to remain faithful and continue to worship Him in spirit and truth. God is about to create a moment in time that will change your life and just as with Obed-Edom, all that pertains to you! It is not by your might or by your power, but it will be by the Spirit of the Living God!
