On Wednesday, December 7th, 2016, as I approached a stop sign, God gripped my senses and this stop became a really telling token of why.

God wants to reset our outlook on blessings, in order to put a halt [stop] to some of the practices we’ve adopted and unintentionally restricted ourselves with.

As I sat there, occasionally looking in my rear view mirror for any approaching traffic, I scribed what I heard on the notepad of my phone.

Some of us are looking at the Lord like I’m waiting for You to bless me. I’m waiting on You, God, to send someone to help me. I’m waiting for the checks to come in the mail and for the unexpected expected blessings.

Lord, I’m waiting for you to put wealth into my hands and God’s response to your “wait” is:

I created your hands to build wealth.

Stop waiting. Start building.

Blessings aren’t exclusively given, blessings are created too.

Blessings aren’t just exclusive to being given. Blessings don’t necessarily have to come through the hands of someone else. Blessings can come through your own hands. Blessings can be created.  Blessings can be created by you.

Gifts shouldn’t be a fixture in or a part of your come up plan. Blessings in this form, should not be the only means through which you expect to flourish and you should not adopt this belief as a lifestyle.

A scripture commonly associated with blessings is Luke 6:38, which says:

Give, and it will be given to you: Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will men give unto you. For with the measure you use, it will be measured unto you.” (MEV)

If You Don’t Work, You Don’t Eat

This particular promise from God, says that He will cause men to give to us, but only after we’ve given. This promise is conditional, solely based on what you do. Based on the effort you put in, based on your work i.e. the measure you use will be measured to you.

Moreover, this isn’t about receiving or being blessed, because that’s a part of God’s desire for you. God wants you to receive, but more than ever, He wants you to realize the power that you have to work with Him to create your own blessing.

When Abraham rescued his nephew Lot from kidnappers, he was not only able to recover all that the opposing armies had stolen from Lot, but he recovered the goods of others too. As a result, the king of Sodom wanted to “bless” him (Genesis 14:21). Abraham responded to king Bera with:

Abram replied to the king of Sodom, “I solemnly swear to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will not take so much as a single thread or sandal thong from what belongs to you. Otherwise you might say, ‘I am the one who made Abram rich.’

Genesis 14:22-23 NLT

May God Himself Make Me Wealthy

God wants us to get to the point of being as Abraham, who was able to refuse the blessing of a questionable king, choosing to accept that God would be the sponsor of his success.

Disclaimer: I am not telling you to refuse anything from anyone or accept everything from everyone either. Sometimes, the things we accept come with unseen strings attached and we never want to be so disadvantaged that we need it. [Read about My Poverty Experience Here] What you can do is develop an intimate relationship with The Holy Spirit and allow Him to freely help you with your decisions.

PRAYER

God, I choose to reset my views on Your blessings. I know You will use others to bless me, but I will not solely anticipate Your blessings in this form because I know You can create blessings through my own hands! Please reveal any area that this view has impacted my life, so that I may flourish as You desire. I will no longer fall into or accept this lackadaisical approach to life. May I be as Abraham, fully trusting You to be a Lavish Provider. I will not fall into complacency or give into fear, using waiting on You as a crutch. I trust You to teach me to profit and to show me how to build wealth.

In Jesus Name, Amen!
